Viennese Winter Ball 21st Anniversary
It was a magical, elegant and unforgettable night!
In 2017 we raised $32,000 raised for youth musical initiatives.
The event opened with Frederic Lacroix’s musical notes at the Steinway nine-foot grand piano during the Champagne reception hosted by Dr. Stefan Pehringer, Ambassador of Austria to Canada.
Then, in a magical frozen forest atmosphere, as the elegant guests were seated in the Trillium Ballroom, 24 young Debutantes and Cavaliers performed the Polonaise played by one of the North America’s top chamber orchestras: Thirteen Strings. Then, as soon as the first notes of Edelweiss were heard, each of these young dancers invited one of the attendees from the Ottawa’s political, cultural and business communities to begin to waltz the night away.
The dinner, a creative blend of Austrian and Canadian gastronomy, excited the guests’ taste buds and revealed the synergies between the two cultures.
2017 Benefactors were Music and Beyond’s initiatives for young people, Junior Thirteen Strings and Orkidstra are extremely thankful for this charitable event as more than $32,000 will be contributed to these collective musical youth programs.
“What a magical night! As a first time attendee, I was touched by the beauty of the debutantes and cavaliers – it was indeed a glimpse back into a gentler time in our history. I look forward to next year!” Crickett Lindgren, 2017 Winter Viennese Ball committee member.

“Wonderful evening! Both my wife and I definitely enjoyed our 1st Viennese Winter Ball. Happy and proud that Austria could bring a great deal of Viennese Ball tradition to Ottawa and that the people liked it so much! Looking forward to the 2018 Viennese Winter Ball!” Dr. Stefan Pehringer, Ambassador of Austria to Canada.
“I was completely thrilled with the Ball this year. It was incredibly exciting to be celebrating our 20th anniversary and our team made the Trillium Ballroom of the Shaw Centre look absolutely stunning. It was pure magic from beginning to end!” Julian Armour, Producer, The Viennese Winter Ball.
“The evening gave one a fascinating glimpse into the historical tradition of the Austrian ball, as brought to life by young debutantes in white ballgowns, who waltzed to the music of Vienna with their handsome cavaliers.” Louise, 2017 Viennese Winter Ball volunteer
